THE DRAFT, IN HINDSIGHT

I feel like I learned a lot just from doing the draft. I wish I would have done at least one mock draft. I think it would have been beneficial to see how the picking goes and also to ready myself for those later rounds that presented some real challenges. Also, I learned that 10 of each position is not nearly enough. I feel like before the draft I read a few articles about drafting technique in relation to which positions to pick up first and how your strategy should flow throughout the draft, but I almost feel like the best way to go about it is to honestly grab the best of the best as soon as you can. Yes, filling your starters is important and having every slot filled is important, but if you have the best 3 quarterbacks, someone will trade with you later. Obviously, this is just my first go at this, but I think seeking strategy through trades isn’t the worst thing. If you have a terrific bench, then you have the power going through the season as players get injured or teams fall above or below their projections. Although, with that said, it is important to pay attention to filling your starter slots and having back-ups for each one, making sure the by-weeks are not the same. Also, I have come to realize how much time Fantasy Football can really consume. And at the same time the excitement that can come from it. So all in all my first draft was definitely a learning experience and I look forward to the first weekend of football!!!

THE DRAFT, LIVE

Okay. Time for the draft. As I sit at my computer, I all of a sudden feel like I really should have done a mock draft. What does WR stand for again? And I think I know what a Snake Draft is. Two years ago I was the “Vanna White” for a live draft, so I think I remember…Okay, so an hour before the draft starts…lets do some research. I scoped out the top 100 players, looked at Fantasy Football 2015 projections and also at the points the players acquired last year and came up with a list of about 10 players per position. Hopefully that was going to be enough. Alright, so I’m feeling pretty good. I’m actually excited! I think I am starting to understand the draw! Now there’s about 10 minuets before the live draft starts. How do I select a player? And Flex? What does that mean? How much time do we have allotted per draft pick? As I fervently text our League Manager asking him all this and more, with great patience he helped me through it. I found the que and started to set things up. Back on track. Now time for the draft!! I am set up as draft pick #9 out of 10. Not seemingly that great, but because of the snake draft, that means in round 2, I’ll be #2! So we’ll see how that goes…I feel like all the players I had set up for are being grabbed right away! I feel like the first few rounds are easiest and it’s the latter rounds that become difficult. All the names on my list are crossed out and taken already, what should I do? And then wonderful! My computer freezes! And my turn is up! Oh no! As soon as my computer comes back I’ll just drop a bunch of people in my que to at least have someone. That guy has a cool name…That guy looks pretty tough…I think I’ve heard of him…
